Unique guidewall system delivered to Port of Hamburg’s new Kattwykbrücke
ShibataFenderTeam has successfully delivered a unique fender guidewall system to the Joint Venture Max Bögl / HC Hagemann / Heijmans for the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA). The system protects the newly built “Kattwykbrücke” in the Port of Hamburg, being one of the largest lifting bridges in the world with 2,000t and 287m length. It is one of the most important infrastructure projects for the Port of Hamburg.
The entrance area of the bridge is protected by six sets of our Cone 1800 Fenders Systems on mono steel piles – each offering a notable capacity of 3,000kNm. The heart of the system is formed by two 7-meter-high and 17-meter-long guidewall panels, one on each side of the bridge. The guidewalls, which protect the bridge foundation, are supported by chains and a 14-meter-long trapezoidal, movable ground support structure. Each of the guidewall systems, acting as a crash barrier, is equipped with four nos. of our Cone 2000 Fenders and offers a remarkable energy absorption capacity of over 12,000kNm - certainly, one of the most complex fender system designs to date. The guidewalls have been successfully installed with all efforts above and below water by the team of Taucher Knoth in the Elbe river with 4 meters of tidal range.
We are proud to see our fender systems once again in our HQs hometown, Hamburg. (#2828)
